In 1985, a production crew for the MTV/IRS Records show The Cutting Edge arrived in town to shoot a scene report on the Austin music scene. The show was directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, who later made Little Miss Sunshine. The Austin bands and musicians featured were Joe "King" Carrasco, True Believers, Zeitgeist, Poison 13, Doctor's Mob, Wild Seeds, Glass Eye, the Dharma Bums and Tim Buk 3 (! ) Daniel Johnston was not scheduled to appear but he talked his way onto the stage, and stole the show.
